About
Kateřina Jirmanová is a set and costume designer and a graduate of the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at the Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU) in Prague. She completed her studies in 2019 at the DISK Theatre with the production Stranger Seeking an Apartment, directed by Tomáš Loužný. She continues to collaborate with Loužný as a designer on various projects for stages such as the National Theatre in Prague, Theatre X10, MeetFactory, and the Činoherní studio in Ústí nad Labem.
Her work spans a wide range of genres, from drama to opera and visual arts. She also collaborates with the Spitfire Company, with whom she created costumes for the opera The Barber of Seville at the South Bohemian Theatre. Her portfolio further includes puppets and costumes for Gulliver’s Travels at the ABC Theatre and set design for Laterna magika as part of the Signal Festival.
She has made a significant mark on the contemporary dance scene, most notably through her collaboration with choreographer Martin Talaga on the projects Fallen Olymp and SOMA (winner of the Dance Piece of the Year at the Czech Dance Platform 2018).
Beyond traditional stages, she has a long-standing creative partnership with actor and performer Petr Vančura on his original POP UP shows and performance projects; together, they contributed to a three-part project for the National Theatre’s Home Stage. In addition to her theatre work, Kateřina is involved in film and plays the drums in both a brass orchestra and alternative music projects.
